Top 5 Mistakes Most Gym Owners & Yoga Studios Make When Digital Marketing
Written by Michael Blium on Sept. 25th 2019
I see this all the time where gym owners and yoga studios have a hard time getting people in the door. To manage everything in the business and then get clients on top of that can be a difficult process, and especially if you haven’t taken any marketing courses. Here are some of the problems I have personally noticed owners going through with their digital marketing.

1. Market Research: In order to drive awareness and generate clients to use your service or products, we need to understand the person you are going to be selling the services too. This includes conducting research on the different marketing platforms, in order to understand how to market your service effectively to the right audience and the ideal customer.

There are online tools listed below that will allow you the ability to do market research and understand what people are looking for.

Tools would include
Google trends,
Keyword planner,
Facebook groups,
Insight tools.
Google Analytics

2. Campaign objectives: When launching a campaign at the start you should have goals and objectives, but a lot of owners aren’t sure which campaigns they should run first. There are a ton of choices, branding, cold traffic, remarketing, awareness and more. It can be overwhelming to know which campaign to choose and how to build them. What will happen if you choose a type of campaign compared to another? Knowing which situation to apply your campaigns is important and could make you a lot of money. Having a clear goal of what your company is looking for is important before you put money into marketing. Campaigns take time for data to build and to make adjustments. It's like digging a tunnel, its good to know where your digging to our you can get lost along the way.

3. Budget: Knowing your ROI and having KPI’s is important for how you allocate your budget. Every campaign has different metrics that they measure to let you know how they’re performing such as CTR, relevance score, conversion rate and more. Most owners don’t give enough time for their campaigns to gather enough data before they adjust or cancel budgets. If you have a limited budget its important to focus on the campaigns where traffic is good with the most ROI. Through reports, you can see what percentage of the traffic you were able to capture with your monthly budget and how much you missed out on. Knowing these indicators could make you a lot of money or cost you a ton.

4. Reviews/Testimonials: Gym owners and yoga studios do not get enough clients to give them testimonials or reviews on marketing platforms which can be a huge plus for people who are looking to join their place. Testimonials offer assurance to potential customers as a third party and unbiased review. So make sure you collect them as often as you can to keep them fresh and relevant. The reviews can be a story, results or even insight to a client success because of your service.

5. Funnels: The word funnel is used so often for a reason in marketing and its important that you understand your funnel and strategy. If people are going through your marketing funnel is it a smooth process? Are potential clients getting stuck along the way of your sales process? Most owners don’t have an idea of how to start or create a funnel and implement it into their culture. Not just marketing but follow up as well all these factors are a big part of the experience a member goes through.

These are my top 5 mistakes that I notice most gyms and yoga studios owners make. I see too many people spend money without going through the process and they wonder why they're not getting results. If you are about to start a marketing campaign just make sure you tick off all these boxes before you start.
